Abstract

Nowadays, almost all Industries are struggling in their Business due to economy crisis. In order to recover from that, they are announcing Volunteer Retirement Schemes and Lay-off their Employees, some medium and small scale Industries are even closed too. In this situation, they are forced to do these things to survive in their field:

. Increase the selling price of their product.

. Reduce their internal costs and improve the quality of their product.

At present situation, it is not possible to increase the selling price of their products. So, the only way is to reduce their internal costs and improve the quality of the product to fulfill the Customer Requirement. In order to overcome the above mentioned difficulties, we suggest them to implement the Lean Manufacturing System tools and techniques in their Organization.

Abstract

This paper attempts to analyze the performance of an industrial robot by comparing the solutions obtained using RK method and Single-Term Haar wavelet series (STHWS) method. The exact solution of the system of equations representing the arm model of a robot, has been compared with the corresponding discrete solution at different time intervals. The absolute error between the exact and discrete solutions has also been determined in order to suggest the method of improving the performance of a robot. The validation has been carried out with reference to the earlier research output appeared in this field of study.

Abstract

A reliable and sensitive technique to monitor the tool wear without interrupting the process became a crucial issue for realization of the modern manufacturing concepts without human resources at machining centers. A proper oniine cutting tool condition monitoring system is essential for deciding when change the tool. This paper outlines a neural network based tool condition monitoring system for cutting tool flank wear. The cutting tests were performed on mild steel using HSS tool and on-line cutting forces data was acquired with a cutting force dynamometer. Simultaneously flank wear was measured using a toolmakers microscope and the processed data were fed to a Back Propagation Neural Network (BPNN). The developed system then was tested to predict flank wear for various cutting conditions. The output of the neural network is capable of accurate tool wear prediction for the range it had been trained but the accuracy deteriorated as the cutting conditions were changed significantly.

Abstract

In the turning operation, chatter or vibration is a frequent problem, which affects the surface finish and tool life. In all cutting operations like turning, boring and milling vibrations are induced due to the deformation of the workpiece, this implies economical disadvantage. The main objective of the proposed work is to design damped tool holder for existing machine tools with low cost fabrication techniques. In this investigation, improvement of the damping capability of boring tool and suppression of chatter vibration using lead damper and Impact damper are analyzed. The lead damper Inertia mass of the boring tool has been Increased to suppress the chatter vibration. In impact damper kinetic energy of free mass is dissipated. Finite element analysis is performed to study dynamic behavior of composite tool holder, the effects of overhang length of boring tool with lead damper, and the effects of impact damper in boring tool was investigated.

Abstract

Continuous Improvement (CI) has been incrementally induced in a corporate thinking; however, practical implementation o f Cl In the manufacturing process has progressed at a slower space. This research attempted to implement Cl in the foundry by using the concept of kaizen. The purpose o f this research is to expound waste minimization in a foundry and to reveal their positive influences on continuous improvement environment. A sand casting case is presented to validate and demonstrate the dynamics of Cl implementation process in the foundry and practical approaches adopted during implementation are also discussed. This case study shows that Cl process is a specific tailor made process for a selected organization and Cl is a cyclic nature of never ending gradual improvement process.

Abstract

Optimization of parallel machine scheduling in a shop floor environment is considered with the objectives of minimizing both the total earliness and the total tardiness. A hybrid optimization procedure based on genetic algorithm and fuzzy logic technique has been developed in this work in order to achieve the multi-objective functions. The proposed optimization procedure is compared with the existing heuristics and the performances are analyzed.

Abstract

In the current global competitive environment, the need of the foundry is to develop the components as quick as possible at a minimum cost. In this circumstance, finite element analysis based computer simulation can be used. The heat transfer from the molten metal to the mould can be visualized during computer simulation of the casting. This can be seen as a graphical form and used to visualize the defects during methods design. It will strengthen the foundry engineer's ability to solve complex problems related to the design of new pattern lay-out. This paper focuses on integrating molding department and methods design department with simulation. This paper also explains how this integration is useful to point out human error during rejection control process. Auto-cast, a software package was used for simulation.
